Trade Compliance Verifications
Why are verifications conducted?
Verifications are used to ensure that importers comply with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) programs and requirements. Verifications assess the compliance with CBSA legislation, compliance with industry sectors, enforces reviews of liabilities and entitlements, and validate the integrity of trade data received from importers.
The CBSA manages trade compliance with Tariff Classification, Valuation, and Origin programs using random verifications that measure compliance rates and revenue loss, and verification priorities that are determined through risk-based, evergreen processes which produces new targets year to year.
The current priorities for:
- Trade Classifications include LED lamps, batteries, pickled vegetables;
- Valuations includes apparel and footwear; and
- Origins includes bedding and drapery
